ZAPTEC ENTERS FINLAND with patented dynamic EV Charging

Safety comes first when designing smart chargers for electric cars, but it does not
exclude usability and style, say the norwegians.

In the fast evolving field of smart electric vehicles charging industry, Norwegian originated Zaptec has emerged as a significant player in Europe. The company is devoted to creating intuitive and easy-to-use charging solutions in order to encourage the mass adoption of electric vehicles (EV).

“We hear countless stories, from people of all ages, about how the transition to electric vehicles has been much simpler than anticipated”, says Tonje Garvik,
Zaptec’s Global Sales Director.

On the technical side, Zaptec’s most prominent feature is the patented dynamic phase and load balancing technology, which ensures optimal electricity utilization. It is a
crucial feature especially in larger setups like apartment complexes or office buildings, ensuring equitable power distribution and avoiding system overload.

On a micro level, it allows for efficient charging of more vehicles without expensive capacity upgrades. On a macro level, it’s vital in facilitating a wider transition to EVs, optimizing the use of existing power grid infrastructures without necessitating extensive overhauls.

Smart and easy

The two charger models that Zaptec offers are Zaptec Go for home charging and Zaptec Pro for public parking facilities. With Zaptec’s smart systems the charger automatically adjusts the charging speed in the premises. In Eco Mode it can even be adjusted to charge during the lower-fee hours of the day.

When it comes to usability, it is not just car owners that Zaptec has had in mind, but also installers, says Garvik.

“It only takes three minutes and 42 seconds to install a Zaptec Go. Everything is easy to use.”

Installers and owners of charging installations also have free access to Zaptec Portal, which is the brains behind Zaptec’s smart charging infrastructure. It continuously monitors, balances and optimizes the load between the various charging stations. Therefore all monitoring, updates and configurations can be done remotely overthe-air.

“A lot is happening in Finland”

Norway has been leading the transition to electric vehicles for long. It has also been strongly supported by legislation, and the country has invested heavily on the infrastructure suitable for electric cars. For example, taxation of electric vehicles is lighter and they are exempted from road tolls on highways. A national goal is that by 2025 all new cars in Norway should be emission-free.

In Finland the goal is to cut 50 percent of the traffic emissions by 2030, and Zaptec aims to be a major player in building the expanding charger network.

“From our point of view Finland is very interesting at the moment. It is an evolving market for electric vehicles and therefore also their charging solutions. A lot is happening there now”, says Garvik.

New partnerships

Zaptec first entered the Finnish market by partnering with Sparkli, who have specialized exclusively in Zaptec’s products for the past three years. According to the local distributor, Finnish customers are very rational and therefore understand well the benefits of dynamic phase balancing and appreciate the quality and design of Zaptec chargers.

The finnish-norwegian collaboration will be continued also in the future.

“We have been very happy with what Sparkli and Zaptec have achieved together, and we are definitely going to continue our cooperation”, says Garvik.

Sparkli chairman of the board Juuso Kenkkilä says the journey together has been super exciting.

”Our team is as enthusiastic as ever in building Zaptec’s superior EV charging systems’ market position even stronger”, he says.

Recently Zaptec has expanded their importer network in Finland. New additions to the list of partners are technical wholesalers Onninen and Scanoffice.

“We are happy to have found good and stable partners such as Onninen and Scanoffice. They will also portray Zaptec chargers at the largest electricity trade fair
in the Nordic countries in Jyväskylä in February”, says Garvik.

Safety, responsibility – and style

Zaptec’s holistic approach also extends to commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices. To ensure user safety, only highest quality components that undergo external testing are used. All Zaptec’s components are manufactured in Stavanger, in the south-west coast of Norway, where the company was originally founded.

Due to high manufacturing standards Zaptec chargers are given a five-year guarantee instead of the industry’s common standard of two years.

“Safety is our number one priority. We make sure that people can sleep well at night when their cars are charging, and everything works as it is supposed to do at all
times”, Garvik says.

Last but not least, your charger needs to look appropriate, she says.

“We have also given the Zaptec Go’s design a lot of thought, since the charger is installed on the house wall where you see it every day. We are pleased that its compact size combined with a stylish and minimalistic look has gotten a good response.”

Award-winning success story

The company’s ambitions have been noted both nationally and internationally: Zaptec Go was awarded as the best charger by the Norwegian Automobile Federation and it has also won the Red Dot Design award for best product design.

The journey that started 2015 has exceeded all expectations. Zaptec has just crossed the milestone of 500 000 produced EV chargers, and the total amount of energy
delivered is over 600 million kWh.

To put it in perspective, that’s the equivalent of driving your EV to the sun and back ten times.
