Fireproof materials for the waters

Esmarin Composites’ new composite solution leads the way for modern ship design.

Esmarin Composites is known for its innovative composite solutions for especially marine and rail industries. During its 30 year-long history the company has acquired a wide expertise in product development processes, material selection and
production.

Composite is the modern alternative to metals and gypsum.

“Due to its formability and lightness, the possibilities for the industrial use of composite are nearly endless. Therefore we always strive to use the most up-to-date materials and production methods”, CEO Jonne Tynkkynen says.

Shipyards in France and Finland use Esmarin Composites’ elements for instance in bathroom floors in cruise ships. Yet the growing potential in the marine sector has encouraged the company to invest in further product development.

Esmarin Composites’ latest innovation is a composite construction that meets International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) fire safety standards for bulkhead, walls and ceilings linings. It is expected to be officially certified in June, which opens a range of new possibilities for product design.

“We have shown that it is possible to create a fireproof composite solution for ships that is as lightweight and easy to mold as
regular composite materials, but also as cost-efficient”.

As the demand for environmentally friendly marine traffic grows, shipbuilders and designers require materials that are both light and durable.

“In addition to the technological aspect, ships are also about their spectacular design. With composite it is possible to create. It also suits extremely well for different kinds of ship refurbishment projects, in which we see lots of possibilities,” Tynkkynen mentions.

All Esmarin Composites’ design and manufacturing work is done in Savonlinna. Due to the experience from various industries, the company can draw the best practices from different fields and projects.

“The clients also appreciate our flexibility and the comprehensive process from idea to the ready-made product.”
